Okapi is Filippo Paolini, an Italian turntablist and sample cutup artist. Filippo has recorded as one half of the duo Metaxu (with Maurizio Martusciello) and also the trio Dogon, and he's performed
on RAI (Italian state radio) and collaborated with noted avant-turntablist Christian Marclay.
Okapi uses his turntables and computer to create music completely outside of the hip-hop school of chopped up music.Instead he has created some albums that veers from orchestral to lounge to quirky experimental music, while maintaining a delicate and spacious sound throughout.His skill at sample manipulation is really quite amazing. In his live-set Okapi mix techno / broken beat / electro / 8-bit with melodies including klezmer, polk, childrens' music, idiot-pop,hawaian music.
Aldo Kapi (Kyzyl-Suu 12 September 1896 - Cholpon-Ata 11 May 1952) Kyrgyz composer.Son of Iranian
industrialist Agha Mirza Kapi and the Italian Elena Bottero, Kapi was initially destined for a career as a schoolteacher, and completed his studies in the Orthodox abbey of Bishkek in Kyrgyzstan.
"I dreamt I drowned in the lake": Kapi scribbled that early vision on a piece of paper at the age of 19.
Unknowingly, he was describing his eventual fate, the life he would lead in Central Asia, and also his attempted suicide in Issyk-Kul.
Kapi was unable to realize his dream of becoming a great pianist,owing to the unwise experiments he
undertook to perfect his technique during the winter of 1910-11,which caused the loss of the use of his right ring-finger. He decided to dedicate himself,instead, to composition. Introverse but often extravagant, his first works were an attempt to break away from formal traditions and classical structures that he considered too restrictive.
During the decade spent in Bishkek, Kapi produced his first noteworthy compositions, such as Sguadrezzi da pe' (1914) and Pignottimi d'approsi (1917). In 1920 Kapi passed the examination for the post of organist at the Holy Trinity Church of Karakol,Kyrgyzstan, and decided to perfect his art among the Tajiks of the Pamir, under the guidance of the Ismailist leader Aga Khan III, the maestro of Taimur Zulfikarov. This period saw his first meeting with Yvette Labrousse, (Miss France 1930), Salah Eddine Ahmed Bokassa (emperor of the future Central African Empire ), his 17 wives and Ruhollah Khaleghi (the first Persian sound-designer,from Kerman, Iran) as well as written works, such as the three great Messe tragicomiche and Kapi's first proto-plunder-orchestral pieces.
In 1923 he was nominated Professor of Harmony, Vako Orchestron and Optigan at the conservatory of
Dushanbe in Tajikistan.
However, while he attracted a large body of devoted students, in Dushanbe he also faced hostility from Morteza Hannaneh (founder of the Tehran Symphony Orchestra and the Afghan king Mohammad Nadir Shah (then France's ambassador in Afghanistan). Their opposition culminated in the poor reception given to his Terza Sinfonia Pooch-poem in 1926, after which Kapi returned to Kyrgyzstan.
Recognition came only later, after a long period of patient revision of his work. In 1928 he was awarded a university chair and his Fourth Romantic Symphony (Death of Henry II) and Fifth Symphony(Love him) were finally performed in Dushanbe. He then went on to "conquer" Samarcand (Uzbekistan) and the American poet and critic Ezra Weston Loomis Pound, who lavished praise on his Bud-Dub. After reconcilitation with Mohammad Nadir Shah, the University of Kabul awarded Kapi a doctorate honoris causa.
In the early 1950s, despite pleasant vacations in Oubangui-Chari (now the Central African Republic) along with the writer and Nobel Prize winner Andre Gide (guests of the future dictator Bokassa),the symptoms of his mental instability,evident in the past, worsened. He was forced to resign his post and attempted suicide.
Confined in the Kurort Jergalan asylum at Karakol, he lived for only further two years, with only occasional flashes of lucidity.

Reason enough, then, for Infacted to re-release the legendary "Push!" single. Did we say 'single'??? This 11-track CD is much more than that, as it contains not only the four original tracks from the "Push!" (released in 1986 on Last Chance Records), butalso the new version of "Push!" from the MCD re-release of 1990, and two live versions. It also features "Make a Device" from the "Talla's Techno Drome International" 12" (released in 1987), "Devil Dance" from the 12" of the same name, "Locate a Stranger" from an extremely rare 7" from 1986, and one previously unreleased demo recording from 1994!

This absolutely legendary Hard House label was launched in the 1994 from within the Puregroove Records store in London, England by Ziad, his brother Tarik & Mick Shiner. It became instrumental in the development of UK Hard House & Nu NRG during the late 90's and by the turn of the millenium, Tripoli Trax reached its acme with a large number of classic releases and remixes by just about every heavyweight in the scene.
As of the 100th release in April 2004, Marc Johnson took over as A&R from Steve Hill who steered the label into Hard Trance territory since the end of 2001. Marc succeeded to inject a refreshing energy into the label with releases by a different breed of producers as well as bringing some of the Tripoli's old guard back into the fold, thus delivering the toughest sounds in Hard House & NRG once again.
At the end of 2005 Pure Groove made a decision to put Tripoli Trax on hold indefinitely, do away with Hard Dance sales at their stores and concentrate on a soaring Indie market. The label's hibernation lasted nearly two years when in 2007 Marc Johnson once again took charge of this classic imprint with the assistance of Chris Comben.
The label closed doors again for good in 2008 when Marc Johnson retired from Djing and producing.

It's with something of a sense of trepidation that iDJ approaches it's chat with Hamburg's brazenly sweary Fukkk Offf, or bastian Heerhorst to his nearest and dearest.
With a name so steeped in profanity, and a short, sharp back catalogue of noisy scuzzed-up bangers, most recently the guttural "ravel is king", you'd be forgiven for thinking he might not be the easiest of characters to chat with.
Turns out that 30-year-old bastian is as well mannered and curteous as they come, occasionally even apologizing for his impeccable English - though he stops short of revealing too much about what's going on in the studio. that remains top secret, for now. And while things are gathering momentum for Bastian, it could have all turned out so differently. "Around two years ago I was ready to give up making music," he says. "Nothing was happening for me. i'd produced so many different styles of music - even pop - and had pretty much given up.".
But, taking inspiration from the heavily compressed, extroverted sounds of Benny Banassi, amongst others, Heerhorst concocted a newdirection for himself which didn't fit in with his previous output and what his mates were doing. "I was just sat at my computer and just thought, "FUCK OFF!" to all the things that you weren't supposed to be doing. And that's where the name came from he says.So, after putting his first releases out on a small local label in2007, he's been signed up to NY's coco machete, and hasn't looked back since.
And despite the international lifestyle, there's a definite sense of civic pride in his native hamburg. "i was born here and I'm going to stay here forever!" he laughs. "There are big clubs here, but all the cool lil underground places round the red light district are definitely my favorites."
So, with fukkk Offf seemingly ready to join an impressive list of talent from hamburg, including boys noize collaborator dim and crossover stars Digitalism, and an album due this year, you can certainly get the feeling the best is still yet to come... from the one and only....
